Town Meeting · Meeting of October 27, 2026

Northbridge Town Meeting approved a bylaw change allowing COMM-97 soil imports to repair the failing Quaker Street landfill cap, choosing it over a potential debt exclusion. The Finance Committee, which voted 6-0 to recommend the change, said the landowner-funded soil option avoids an estimated $10 million to $15 million taxpayer debt exclusion that officials said could otherwise come before voters as soon as May 2026. Residents pushed back, citing a 2014 bylaw restricting such imports after odor and property-value complaints; one resident argued the town had heard cost estimates for capping but no estimate of "anywhere between $5 to $25 million" in potential profit for the property owner.

Town Meeting also approved $105,000 for the middle school auditorium renovation, rescinded unused prior borrowing authorizations, authorized easements for the Route 122/Sutton Street project, and accepted Rebecca Road, Joseph Circle and Genevieve Drive as public ways in the Hamlet Subdivision, following a unanimous October 13 Planning Board recommendation.
