Northbridge selectmen affirm Brian Carroll's promotion to police sergeant and approve four firefighter event requests. Board of Selectmen voted unanimously to affirm the Town Manager's appointment of Carroll, a four-year police dispatcher who became the first officer appointed outside civil service in 2022, to supervise the third shift. The board also unanimously approved banners advertising a May 2 Spaghetti Supper and July 18 Fireworks Event, an entertainment license for the fireworks, and street closure for the event.
In a joint budget presentation, Superintendent Amy McKinstry detailed a $34.5 million FY2027 school budget seeking $1.5 million in additional appropriation, with a structural deficit of $2.6 million when accounting for non-sustainable one-time revolving fund revenue. The district requested 12.5 new positions totaling $808,505, citing growth in special education and English learner enrollment, state-mandated net spending shortfalls, and an incoming Grade 2 cohort of 174 students.
