Northbridge selectmen defer school override vote to school committee. The Board and Finance Committee heard two competing FY2027 strategies for closing the schools' budget gap: a phased $4.915 million approach over five years starting with $908,000 in FY27 at $855 annually per average home, and an upfront $3.386 million option at $590 annually. Chairman Michael Wilkes and Finance Committee Chair Plato Adams backed the upfront strategy.
The Board will vote before April 13 on which option to place on the May 19 ballot. School Superintendent Amy McKinstry warned that failure to pass any override would trigger state penalties for missing net school spending requirements.
