School Committee Accepts $2,050 Uniform Gift, Warns on SGOs
School Committee · Meeting of September 22, 2026
Northbridge School Committee warns a pending state tax-credit scholarship program could drain public school funding and enrollment. The superintendent told members Massachusetts has until December to decide whether to opt into the federal program, which offers donors a dollar-for-dollar credit up to $1,700 for gifts funding private and public school scholarships. One member asked "is this just a path to school privatization and defunding," while another pegged Northbridge's qualifying income near $250,000 under the plan's 300 percent-of-median threshold.
Separately, the board voted 5-0 to accept a $2,050 donation from coach Greg Parker covering a football uniform budget gap, and approved warrants of $233,973.02 and $253,807.32 by unanimous roll call. Members also reviewed a roughly $51,000 middle school athletics cut tied to a failed override and heard that over 800 families still owe required back-to-school paperwork.
